"Sorrow Monk", the sculpture by artist Peter Romano, was destroyed in December 2007 by vandalism.
When AITE began its search for outdoor works, Peter had reservations about Marshall and participating in the exhibit, but once here he quickly realized what a great place Marshall was to exhibit this type of art work. Unfortunately, the destruction of his sculpture due to vandalism, caused him to hesitate about replacing it. After some thought, he felt an obligation to replace the piece knowing it has been a favorite of many residents and visitors to Marshall. Many people have expressed genuine sadness about the loss to both Mr. Romano and Marshall. The artist experienced financial loss as there was no vandalism insurance coverage; AITE also has a possible loss because there was a potential buyer for the piece.
Mr. Romano has replaced the original "Sorrow Monk" until June 2008.
It is located between The Mole Hole and Halltree in downtown Marshall.
